Vaughan Gallavan back to musicians
I live and work as a gardener in a secluded ancient woodland garden, near Exeter. My surroundings are largely free of sound except for those of the natural environment. My creativity owes much to this special habitat which I find nourishing.
Apart from early experiences of being ‘forced’ to sing solo at junior school, I have always loved to sing. Since living in Devon, I have played and performed with a variety of other musicians in both formal and improvisational settings. I have written music for amateur theatre, facilitated voice improvisation groups and regularly explore ancient voice chanting systems.
My horticultural interests have taken me plant hunting to the Himalayas and to the mountains of North Vietnam - with the discovery of local music and instruments enriching these expeditions. I have recorded sounds in these remote places and brought back unusual musical instruments which I include in my own music making. I play acoustic guitar and dabble with a variety of other stringed instruments, too.
